History
This design celebrates Filipino heritage through two powerful symbols: the Kali sticks and the Anahaw leaves. The Kali sticks, rooted in Eskrima, the national martial art of the Philippines, represent skill, discipline, and resilience. When Spanish colonizers banned bladed weapons during the 16th to 19th centuries, Filipinos adapted by disguising their training through folk dances and by practicing with sticks. What once was necessity became tradition, preserving a fighting spirit that endures today. Framing the sticks are Anahaw leaves, the national leaf of the Philippines. More than just greenery, the Anahaw has long symbolized shelter and protection, with its dried leaves used by indigenous communities as natural roofing. Together, the Kali sticks and Anahaw leaves tell a story of strength, adaptability, and cultural pride.
